How to choose your Helite motorcycle safety vest or jacket

Rider Airbags Safety Motorcycle Jacket

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting your jacket, but when it comes to choosing between a vest or jacket there are a number of points to consider. While jacket fit is up to preference, and comfort is an obvious factor, there are a few other points to think about when looking for a jacket.

When considering a leather jacket, the jacket would normally be as tight as possible, almost like a second skin, without being uncomfortable. This is so your jacket doesn’t wear out quickly over time, or scuff permanently and with a leather jacket you would generally wear less additional layers underneath. You must always, however, take into account the airbag system that is incorporated. Regardless of how it fits off the bike, you should consider how it feels whilst riding. Our leather jackets show a sizing chart on each product page, so keep this in mind when looking to buy.

If you’re after a textile jacket, you should keep room for more layers, especially during colder weather when you’re more likely to be riding with a hoodie than a t-shirt under your garment.

Having a jacket that is too snug jacket will affect its insulation and ventilation. If the textile jacket is too loose, the inflated airbag system will not protect you. For those who already have the perfect jacket for them, then a vest is more for you. Remember when sizing up for a riding vest, take into account the jacket you will be wearing too.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE FIRING SYSTEM FOR YOUR MOTORCYCLE VEST

You must finally consider if you are going to use a mechanical or electronic firing system. All our jackets and vests have the inflatable airbag system and most have an integrated back protector, but you must consider the triggering system.

Mechanically triggered vests are great for keeping you safe if you fall off your bike. But if you slide with your bike, the vest may not trigger. An electronically triggered motorcycle safety vest, on the other hand, will detect an accident or collision more accurately. Especially if is accompanied with the additional fork bike sensor.
